Voy a escribir sobre nuestro centro de acogida para ancianos en Gopalpur que ha sido afectado por «Phailin», un ciclón devastador, que empezó en Gopalpur alcanzando los 300 kms por hora y afectando a 14 distritos de Odisha.
La tormenta ha causado enormes daños en el distrito de Ganjam, más que en otros distritos. En Gopalpur, nuestro hogar para ancianos ha sido destruido completamente. La estructura del tejado y un metro por debajo de la estructura de la pared han sido dañados. La hojalata y la madera se han desprendido y la mayoría de la madera se ha roto en parte y en muchos casos, totalmente. La estructura no puede ser reparada. Se ha derrumbado desde la parte de arriba hasta cuatro pies por debajo. La altura total de la estructura de la pared es de 5 metros. Si derribáramos 1 metro y medio desde la parte de arriba y la cubrieramos con una pared de cemento, poniendo como mínimo 20 pilares por cada lado de la pared, la cubierta podría instalarse y la casa podría ser utilizada sin problemas si en el futuro sufrimos un nuevo ciclón o tormenta. Generalmente la playa es la más propensa a los ciclones.
El coste estimado para la renovación completa de la parte de arriba y la colocación de los pilares y las vigas en vez de la madera y la hojalata galvanizada sería de Rs 18 lakhs*. El centro de acogida se cambiaría completamente para la seguridad de los ancianos.
El Shishugreh no ha sufrido daños excepto una parte del tejado del comedor. Algunos árboles han sido también dañados. Los niños están bien. G.Udayagiri y Pasara no han sufrido daños. No hubo electricidad ni agua en Pasara, G. Udayagiri, Gogalpur y Bhuhaneswar. La noche del día 12 fue una noche de terror.
Tenemos miedo de que cualquier movimiento afecte al tejado y pueda caer sobre nosotros.
Los barrios de gente pobre en Bhubaneswar han sido muy afectados. El número de muertos en el distrito de Ganjam y Gopalpur ha llegado a 17 según fuentes oficiales pero las no oficiales dan un número de 150.
Ha muerto gente de los pueblos cercanos a nuestro centro de acogida. El hogar de Swadhar está seguro porque el tejado es de cemento.
Fui a Gopalpur con Matha el día 15 de Octubre 2013 y regresamos por la noche. De vuelta, vimos a gente bloqueando la carretera porque no habían recibido ayuda. Por lo tanto, venir de Gopalpur a Bhuabneswar en vez de 2,5 horas, nos costó 4,5 horas. Marta fue testigo. Cuando los militares lanzaron gases lacrimógenos a la gente, toda la zona se llenó de humo. Luego la gente abandonó la carretera y pudimos pasar.
Ya veis la vida que tenemos que sufrir, la mayor parte del tiempo con la gente siendo víctima de la pobreza, la inanición y sin ley que les ampare.
Este es otro de nuestros desastres.

Now I am going to write most important topic of old age home at Gopaplpur on sea which was greatly affected by phailin ( a devastating cyclone ) started from the point Gopalpur with 300 Km speed and spread 14 districts of Odisha.
The storm has caused extensive damaged inGanjam district more than other districts. In Gopalpur our old age home was damaged completely. The roof structure and three feets below from the wall structure is also damaged
The remaining person of roof just a cover on the roof. But the tin and woods all are being loosed and most of the woods are broken partly or fully.
Those who are below from the roof all the tins are divided into so many parts. The repelling structure can not be repaired. We have to make it completely collapsed from the top to 4 feet below. The total height of the wall structure is 17 feet. If we will demolish 5 feet from the top and cover it by concrete wall by putting minimum of 20 pillars by side of the every wall the above roofing can be well settled and house can be well utilized without any problem if some thing will happen in future disaster like heavy cyclone or strom. Generally the sea beach is most of the time is prone to cyclone.
The estimated cost for complete removal of the top and putting pillar and beams instead of wood and galvanized tin the cost will be Rs 18 lakhs. The side of this home also we will make front space with this concrete roof. Then the shape of the old age home will be complete changed shape for the safety living of the old people.
At this stage repairing can not be made. If repairing will be done even if in a general blow of wind it may caused for the damage.
The Shishugreh having no damage except some tin is out of the roof open dinning space. Some trees are damaged. The children are okay. G. Udyagir and Pasara no damage though cyclonic effect was there both the places. All electrical connection, and water connection stopped in Pasara, G.udauagiri gopalpur and Bhubaneswar. The 12th night was the night of terror.
We are excepting danger at any movement Its affect is so terrible we are expecting roof may fall on us.
The slum area poor people of Bhubaneswar are heavily affected. The death tool in ganjam district and gopalpur has come to 17 in number official but non official it would be 150 in number.
Surrounding the old age home every villages some people died. .Swadhar home is quite safe due to the concrete roof.
I went to gopalpur with Marta on 15/10/2013 and came back in the night.
On the way there was problem people block the road, the cause is govt has not given them relief.
We remained detains two hours The state govt have no money to help people. Even if in our old age and swadhar not a single official or non official visited. Every where there is crises of food, clothing and the problem of shelter and house.
Being a poor state its son and daughters they remain under starvation days together depending on relief.
Therefore coming from Gopalpur to Bhuabneswar instead of 2.5 hours it was 4.5 hours. Marta was eye witness. When military people came throw the tear gas to the people the area is full of smoke and light then people left the road and our car passed.
You see how we are leading our life in a state most of the time people are victim of poverty and starvation and lawlessness.
This is our another disaster
